Zoning Commission approves Longs Pharmacy proposal for La Cienega Plaza

(02/07/06)Yestserday at 1:30 PM Long's Pharmacy went before the Associate Zoning Administrator at City Hall and won.  As you may remember, Crestview Neighborhood Association met with them in October and discussed their plans and they agreed to all of our concerns at that time. 
Their store hours and drive through hours will be 8 am - 11 pm .  They will have extra security on the premises.  And although they have a full liquor license they will be limited to 4 cases located along the side wall towards the back of the store. 
The new Long's Pharmacy will be taking over most of the current Rite-Aid location (Kragen will be taking over a piece of it as well) and the empty Athlete's Foot location.  They will be putting in a drive-through pharmacy window on the side of the building facing La Cienega. 
We are happy that a pharmacy of Long's Pharmacy caliber is interested in coming to La Cienega Plaza and we are confident that they will be a good neighbor.
The only other development project that we are currently working on is Pico Gateway - a mixed-use 6 story building being proposed for the corner of Pico Blvd and Corning .  The developer is asking for variances to increase density, full building banner ads and no setbacks.  We are working with Marc Smith and his group to fight these variances.  No permits have been pulled yet and we will stay on top of this development to make sure that nothing of this scale gets approved for this site.
We will continue to work closely with city officials, developers and residents to make sure that our neighborhood continues to improve.
