January 13, 2005 , Crestview
looked like it was a part of a movie set. But it wasn’t. The helicopter flying above
the neighborhood for 2 hours was very real. As were the police officers and their
dogs who were involved in searching for the burglars who had broken into
a home in Crestview. The police
had been on the lookout for this team of burglars since December when
they broke into 7 homes. The last break-in had been on December 17th.
The West Los Angeles Police Department had heightened patrol in
Crestview with unmarked cars, officers on bicycles and
the residents of Crestview calling in suspicious behavior. At the end
of the day, the burglars were caught and taken into custody. Come
and learn more at the Neighborhood Watch
meeting on Thursday Feb 24th!
Thursday February 24 th 7:30 – 9:00 PM Robertson Rec Ctr Community Room
We come to you as a new group of people who have decided to dedicate our time
and energy
to the area in which we live. We each have our own motivations, skills and desires
for the neighborhood. And we each bring a commitment to working with one anothe
r and in working with you.
We’d like to introduce you to the members of Crestview Neighborhood
Association’s board:
Miryam Bachrach has lived in Crestview since 1974 and was a member of CNA
during many neighborhood ups and downs. After retiring from full-time work
, she agreed to participate on the Board and then took over as Treasurer in the
spring of last year. She brings continuity along with her interest in current
neighborhood improvements.
Linda Bottlik is a graphic designer who will be helping us with the layout
and design of our newsletters nd flyers and will be helping us to create
a web site so that residents can learn about what is happening in Crestview
between newsletters. You will be seeing her talents in the coming months!
Suzanne Ecker has become more and more involved with the issue of Neighborhood
Watch and was instrumental in gathering information, disseminating it to her
neighbors and for working closely with the Los Angeles Police Department
. She will be our new VP of Neighborhood Watch and will be working on behal
f of our entire neighborhood.
Karen Gartz is a local realtor who has many ideas on how to bring the residents
of Crestview together and to increase membership so we can afford to plan
even more events. In addition to membership,Karen will be working with the
block captains. You will no doubt be meeting Karen soon if you haven’t
met her already.
Beth Ryan is a relative newcomer to Crestview but brings years of experience in
community building. She joined the board last year and worked with as the
captain of our block captains. She has been instrumental in setting up
welcoming parties for new residents, helping to organize our general
meeting and obtaining raffle prizes for the attendees.
Ramsey Salem is focused on planting, trimming and taking care of the trees
which CNA planted throughout the neighborhood years ago. Ramsey has
attending training with The Tree People and brings a real passion to keeping
Crestview beautiful.
Pat Mace has resigned from the board due to personal circumstances.
We thank her for hercommitment and dedication to CNA and wish her the best!
February survey: Please take the time to fill out the enclosed survey and return
it to us. The survey is anonymous. It is important that we gather input while
we plan for the coming year. Please feel free to include additional pages if you
would like to send additional comments. Your comments are very important to us.
Thank you in advance for your input. In the coming year, there will be lots of
opportunity to become more and more involved. One of our first and most
important priorities is to establish a Neighborhood Watch Program in Crestview.
We need your involvement to make this program a success. We look forward to
seeing you at the upcoming meeting on Thursday, Feb 24th!

THE CRESTVIEW NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION (CNA)
The Crestview Neighborhood Association (CNA) was formed over 15 years ago by a
group of concerned residents who wanted to improve the neighborhood. At the time,
the crime rate was high, graffiti, vagrancy, and litter were common, and the quality of
life was at risk. Trees, so prevalent now, were few. It was agreed that this would be an
association of all residents who were interested in working together. It would include
both homeowners and renters within the area bounded by La Cienega Blvd.
on the east, Robertson Blvd. on the west, the south side of Pickford on the north,
and the north sideof Sawyer on the south. Each residential household was entitled
to one membership
(one vote) and annual dues were set at a nominal amount. Within a few years Crestview
became incorporated as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, began accepting
tax-deductible donations from residents and local businesses and received a state grant
to assist with tree plantings. CNA has been instrumental in reducing the high crime rate
through the
establishment of the Crestview Patrol Against Crime (CPAC), a group of neighborhood
volunteers trained by the LAPD, and in improving street and traffic conditions,
beautifying the neighborhood, controlling the proliferation of liquor stores, and
other projects that mobilized residents for a common benefit. Today, as then, the
CNA newsletter is published and distributed to all neighbors and periodically there are
general meetings on topical issues to which everyone is invited. All neighbors are
encouraged to participate in Crestview activities and to become members of the
association. Volunteers are welcome to work with the Board and all others for the
betterment of our neighborhood.
